49th Eucen Conference in Mainz (June 7 – June 9 2017)

Conference for Adult and Continuing Education at Johannes Gutenberg University

In the time from June 7 to June 9, the 49th eucen conference, organized by the European Universities Continuing Education Network (eucen), the Center for Continuing Education (ZWW) and the German Association for Continuing and Distance Education (DGWF), took place in Mainz, Germany. Topic of this international conference was “ULLL and the Labor Market in Europe – The Contribution of Continuing Education and Vocational Education to the Challenges of Changing Work and Qualification Requirements”. Dr. Beate Hörr, Head of the ZWW and organizer of the conference, welcomed more than 100 conference participants on the campus of Johannes Gutenberg University, which had the pleasure of hosting this event for the first time.
Françoise de Viron, professor at the Catholic University of Louvain and president of eucen, opened the conference with a keynote speech on the conflation of profession and academic teaching in France. In subsequent talks, experts from different countries – including Hungary, Portugal, Finland and Poland – discussed various aspects such topics as lifelong learning, vocational education, and continuing education at universities and other academic institutions. Said talks were complemented by discussion forums and several poster sessions. The conference’s final day concluded with a general assembly of all members of eucen.
Eucen is a multidisciplinary association concerning itself with lifelong learning at universities. Its scientific committee consists of Dr. Beate Hörr, Lucília Santos from the University of Aveiro (Portugal), and Josephine Finn from Maynooth University (Ireland).
